Position Summary: The role involves handling a caseload of clients under the guidance of senior attorneys, focusing on routine and straightforward applications for immigration benefits with USCIS and assisting in defensive proceedings in Immigration Court. Primary responsibilities include assisting in the intake process, supporting case strategy development, preparing and filing standard applications for relief, and representing clients under supervision in USCIS and Immigration Court proceedings. Regular communication with clients about case processing and ensuring timely development and management of cases is also expected.

Degree:

LLM (Master of Law) from an ABA-approved Law school.

Or,

Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA (American Bar Association) approved law school.

Major or field of study required: Law

Job requirements: Eligible to practice law as a member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of any State of the United States.

Job Duties: Assisting in initial meetings with potential clients to explain basic strategies for relief, outline firm procedures, and provide a general overview of firm fees. Collaborating with paralegals in the preparation of routine case documents to ensure timely progression and compliance with internal deadlines. Supporting the communication process between paralegals and clients in handling straightforward or routine case scenarios; escalating more complex matters to senior attorneys as needed.

Assisting in the preparation of application packages, including standard forms and supporting documentation, under the guidance of senior attorneys. Drafting basic motions and legal documents for review by senior attorneys before submission, focusing on routine cases in deportation proceedings and appeals. Assisting in client representation during immigration interviews and court hearings under the direct supervision of senior attorneys and supporting communication with government agencies. Conducting preliminary legal research on standard issues by referencing applicable statutes and judicial decisions and staying informed on relevant legislative changes.

Travel: Same-day trip to Portland, Oregon for up to 5 days per calendar quarter to represent clients during immigration interviews and immigration court hearings.
